Emergency Alerts operator tests

The government and mobile network operators continue to run limited operator tests of the UK Emergency Alerts service to assess improvements to the system. A test entry was published for 29 September 2026, with most phones not expected to receive it.

Why this matters

Prepared Base view: Emergency Alerts are an important part of how official warnings can reach households quickly, but they should be one layer of a wider communications plan rather than the only source of information.

What you can do

Check that emergency alerts are enabled on household phones, explain the alert sound to children or vulnerable family members, and keep a battery or wind-up radio as a backup source of information during a power or network outage.
